Bison Women's Crew Hosts George Mason in First Race of Fall

SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. - The Bucknell women's crew participated in its first event of the fall season, hosting George Mason for three races on Sunday, September 28. The Bison fell in all three races to the Patriots.
In the first varsity eight, Allison Gasbarra, Jill Harrington, Vi Ngo, Amanda Roof, Nicole Tomlin, Joan Wendler, Jessie Young and Teal Zeisler joined coxswain Megan Garrett. The group challenged the George Mason boat, but crossed the line 31 seconds after the Patriots winning time of 18:23.
The second crew, comprised of coxswain Raychel Maguire, Christine Bufton, Meredith Cutting, Allison DeKnight, Julie Engel, Lisa Kim, Candice Olszewski, Jennifer Prunoske and Ashley White, crossed the finish line in 19:35, 24 seconds behind George Mason's winning time of 19:11.
In the third race of the day, Maguire, again the coxswain, directed Caitlin Cleveland, Sarah Jensen, Courtney Luzzi, Elizabeth Marut, Lauren Olsen, Roof, Caitlin Scudder and Young, to the finish line in a time of 19:54. The Patriots' crew crossed the line in 19:37 for the 17 second win.
"I thought this was a good opener for our fall season," commented head coach Steve Kish. "Our young varsity squad gained a lot of experience, and we are definitely looking forward to improvements for our next event."
The Orange and Blue are in action again on Sunday, October 5, when they host Lehigh and Fordham.
