Bucknell Field Hockey Beats Lafayette, Improves to 2-1 in Patriot League

Lewisburg, Pa. - Kelly O'Brien's two goals powered Bucknell to a 3-2 Patriot League victory over Lafayette on Saturday at Graham Field. The victory gives Bucknell two wins in the Patriot League, with Colgate, which Bucknell beat 3-1 on Sept. 6 at Colgate. It was Bucknell's first win over the Leopards since 2000.
O'Brien's unassisted first goal came at the 12:18 mark of the first period, beating Lafayette goalie Casey Devlin in the left side of the box. Lafayette was able to put one past Bucknell goalie Liz Jordan seven minutes later when Melissa Hoh's game-tying score.
The teams went into the halftime break in a deadlock, but two Bucknell goals in quick succession gave the Bison a 3-1 lead. Meiko Boynton slipped it past Devlin among a crowded goal mouth off a pass from Lindsey Gentel to put Bucknell up 2-1. O'Brien then had her second goal of the game, what would prove to be the game winner, off an assist from Kirsten Nilsen at the 14:42 mark of the 2nd period. O'Brien is tied for the team lead with six goals on the year.
Lafayette came within a goal with 5:21 to play in the game when Jennifer Stone put a penalty stroke past Jordan, but the Bison defense held on for the win.
Jordan, in her first season as Bucknell's goalie, helped the Bison win five of their first six for the first time in nearly 20 years, facing 27 shots and making 12 saves. Her counterpart, Devlin, faced 11 shots and made four saves.
The Bison will be in action again on Tuesday at Graham Field at 4:00 p.m. against St. Francis (Pa.)
