Bison Men's Water Polo Nearly Upsets Navy, Defeats Iona

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Bucknell men's water polo team nearly pulled off an upset win over 12th-ranked Navy in the first game of the ECAC Championship on Saturday, September 27. The Bison led the Midshipmen, 4-0, after the first quarter but went on to drop a 7-6 decision. In their second game of the day, the Orange and Blue defeated 17th-ranked Iona.
Against Navy, Bucknell couldn't hold on to the 4-0 lead in the first and entered the intermission with a 4-2 lead. The Mids shutout the Bison in the third quarter to take a 6-4 lead into the final frame. BU outscored Navy 2-1 in the fourth, but the rally fell just short.
Senior Nick Ferring scored three times for the Bison in the loss, while senior Scott Afzal added two goals.
In the Iona contest, the Orange and Blue got hat tricks from both Bradley Roslyn and Jay Danforth as the squad upset the Gaels 9-6.
Sophomore Trevor Mullins was solid in goal for BU, stopping nine shots.
Bucknell improves to 3-10 overall. The Bison face a team to be determined at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 28.
