LEWISBURG, Pa. - Colgate's Kate Barrett scored just 7:25 into the contest, but that would be all the Raiders would need as the visitors handed the Bucknell women's soccer team a 1-0 loss in both team's Patriot League opener.
Colgate dominated play early, firing off four good shots in the first seven minutes of play. The Raiders finally converted on one of those shots at the 7:25 mark when Barrett delivered a blast into the back right corner of the net. Courtney Hostetler, who had started the corner kick that led to the Colgate score, was credited with the assist.
After the ensuing restart, the Bison took the ball to the Raiders end of the field and nearly knotted the game on an Ashley Dincher shot, but Colgate keeper Luisa Miller made the save.
Colgate appeared to take a 2-0 lead with eight minutes gone in the second half, but the goal was overruled due to an offsides call. Bucknell's best chance in the game came with just under four minutes left. Sophomore Suzanne Arata was chasing down a ball for a one on one situation with Miller, who was well out of the box. Miller managed to get a foot on the ball, however, and avoided a sure goal situation.
Colgate outshot BU, 15-8. Bison goalkeeper Samantha Hecht made five saves. Miller ended the contest with four stops.
Bucknell falls to 4-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Patriot League play. The Orange and Blue host St. Joseph's on Tuesday, September 23, at 4:00 p.m. Colgate improves to 6-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference action. It is the Raiders sixth straight win.
