ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell men's water polo team opened the first set of Southern Division League Games with a 13-5 loss to Navy, ranked ninth in the latest national poll. The Orange and Blue fall to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play with the loss.
The Bison defense was solid in the opening frame, but the squad, playing without its leading scorer Elliot Benoist due to injury, could not get the offense going. Bucknell led 1-0 after one, but went on to give up four goals in the second quarter for a 4-1 halftime deficit.
The Midshipmen went on to tack on nine more goals in the second half, while holding BU to just four, for the final of 13-5. Bucknell squandered several opportunities, going only 1-for-6 in extra-man situations.
The Bison got goals from Scott Afzal, Jay Danforth, Nick Ferring, Bradley Roslyn and Lars Weborg.
Freshman Michael McManigal, filling in for the injured Trevor Mullins, played the entire game in goal and made six saves.
Bucknell is back in action at 6:00 p.m. when it faces Johns Hopkins.
