LEWISBURG, Pa. - The collegiate debut of Bucknell freshman golfer Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) was an unqualified success. Waddell shot 71-72 for a three-over-par total of 143 to finish in a tie for third place at the Bucknell Invitational over the weekend. More importantly, he helped lead the Bison to the team title, their first in a tournament of at least 36 holes since 1987.
For his efforts, Waddell has been selected the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week.
The 2003 Independent School League Player of the Year at Lake Forest Academy, Waddell finished just five shots behind individual medallist Andrew Hill of Mount St. Mary's.
With four scores of 73 or better in Saturday's final round, Bucknell set a team scoring record of 291, and the Herd's 36-hole total of 584 was also a school record.
Waddell will look to keep his strong play going next Sunday and Monday at the St. Bonaventure Invitational in Olean, N.Y.
