Bucknell Men's Water Polo Earns First Win of Season, 15-1, Over Penn State Behrend

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Juniors Elliot Benoist and Nick Ferring each tallied three times, and six other players got involved in the scoring, as the Bucknell men's water polo team cruised to a 15-1 victory over Penn State-Behrend in the first game of the Bucknell Invitational, being held in Kinney Natatorium on Saturday and Sunday, September 13-14.
The Orange and Blue wasted little time getting on the board when sophomore Bradley Roslyn converted on a 4-meter shot just 36 seconds into it. The Bison went on to score six more goals in the first quarter to carry a 7-0 lead into the second. BU tacked on four more goals before halftime, taking advantage of ejections to score three man-up goals.
The Lions limited Bucknell to just one score in the third quarter, but the Orange and Blue responded with three early goals in the fourth to jump out to a 15-0 lead. Penn State Behrend's Brandon Sieber helped his team to avoid the shutout with his goal with just 28 seconds left in the contest.
Defensively, Benoist, senior Scott Afzal and junior Jay Danforth led the team with three steals each. As a team, the Bison recorded 17 thefts, with several leading to transition goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Michael McManigal, seeing his first collegiate action, recorded seven saves.
Bucknell is 1-4 and will face the winner of the Gannon vs. Slippery Rock game, taking place right now, at 6:45 p.m.
