Bucknell Track and Field Members Compete at NCAA East Regionals

FAIRFAX, Va. - Six members of the Bucknell track and field team represented the Bison at the inaugural NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championships, held at George Mason University on Friday and Saturday, May 30-31. The weekend was highlighted by a top-10 finish from senior Bryan Johnston in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Johnston clocked a season-best time in the steeplechase, crossing the line in 9:05.00, less than three seconds off of his personal best time. He placed 10th in the event, narrowly missing an automatic trip to nationals, which goes to the top-five finishers.
Also competing on the final day were juniors Maria Garcia and Justin McKnight. Garcia threw a respectable 51.55 meters in the hammer throw, placing 20th in the event. McKnight tossed the javelin 53.88 meters for 29th.
On the first day of competition, senior Nicki Piper was the only Bison female competing, running a 2:21.82 in the 800-meter run for the Orange and Blue.
On the men's side, junior Noel Powell was a dual competitor, running the 100-meter dash and also participating in the long jump. Powell was the 19th runner across the line in the 100-meter, clocking in at 10.90. He represented the school with a long jump leap of 7.07 meters, good for 18th in the event.
Bucknell's final participant on the weekend was senior Lou Palma. Palma, running in the 1,500-meter race, clocked a 3:53.62 in the event, placing him 25th.
The Bison concluded their season with the Regional competition.
