
Bison Women's Water Polo Opens Eastern Championship With 8-6 OT Win Against Iona

BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman Kaitlin Bardoe scored three times, including the game-winner in overtime, as the Bucknell women's water polo team defeated Iona in overtime at the Eastern Championship on Friday, April 25. The event is being held at Harvard.
The Bison fell into an early 2-1 hole after one quarter, but turned it up offensively in the second, outscoring the Gaels 4-1 for a 5-3 halftime advantage. Iona came back with a defensive stop of its own, outscoring the Orange and Blue 2-0 in the third to tie it up. Both teams tallied once in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime.
It was BU coming out on top in the extra sessions, scoring once in each, while holding Iona without a goal for the 8-6 win.
In addition to Bardoe's three goals, Bucknell also got three from sophomore Meg Blitzer. BU's leading scorer, sophomore Cody Keffer, added one score and three assists. Senior Katie Stahler accounted for the other goal.
Senior Lindsay Chesterfield had an impressive game in goal, stopping 11 shots.
Bucknell is 14-14 overall and will face #9 Michigan, the top-ranked team at the championship, at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26.
