Bucknell Track & Field Programs Place Second At Own Five-Way

LEWISBURG, Pa. - On Saturday, the Bucknell men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Bucknell Five-way Meet. The Bison women placed second behind Kent State, while the men tied for second with Rhode Island, also behind Kent State.
On the women's side of competition, Maria Garcia set a new school record in the hammer throw with a measurement of 180'11". Dionne Bonds moved herself up on the all-time charts (5th) with a jump of 37'3.25" in the triple jump after placing third. In the pole vault, Abigail Bouzan-Kaloustian now stands third on the all-time list (2nd) with a vault of 10'6". Angela McFarland threw the discus 135'5" for a 9th place all-time mark and a bronze at the meet. Robin Meling placed second in the long jump with a leap of 17'4". Tolulope Fayanjuola placed third with a leap of 17'2.25".
Charity Brady moved up on the all-time charts (6th) with a time of 57.32 in the 400-meter. Brady also placed third in the 200-meter dash (25.15). Rehana Lanewala followed in fourth (25.47). Kiley MacDonald won the 400-hurdles with a time of 1:04.29 and stands eight on BU's all-time charts.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Jamie Gow placed second with a time of 11:39.5 and now stands third on BU's all-time charts. Katie Fantauzzo earned third with a time of 11:50.1 and is fifth on the all-time charts. Julie Jakaboski ran the steeplechase in 11:57.1 for fourth and placed herself sixth on the AT list. Cindy Carlson (12:01.4) and Kelly Raffety (12:09.4) also participated in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Jennifer Marsh placed second in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:42.57. Theresa Dennis (18:00.52), Rachel Tutmaher (18:21.58) and Alison Cole (18:32.88) swept the top three finishes in the 5,000-meter race. Bucknell's 4x400-meter squad placed first with a time of 3:51.47 (8th AT).
In the men's competition, Noel Powell jumped 23'1.25" in the long jump, good for a gold. Adam Kaufman threw the hammer for a distance of 169'8" for a first place finish. In the running events, Powell ran the 100-meter in 10.71 for a first place spot. The junior also ran in the 200-meter and earned a gold with a time of 21.46. Ryan Newberger followed for the silver with a time of 21.57, and now stands third on the all-time charts. Richard Alexander placed second in the 110-high hurdles (15.15) and Mike Mellas (15.71) placed third.
Newberger finished the 400-meter in 48.66 (1st) and now stands fifth on the all-time charts. In the 800-meter, Aaron Hanlon (1:53.78) and Kevin Walsh (1:54.77) placed second and third, respectively. Lou Palma crossed the line at 3:52.75 in the 1,500-meter for third place. Ryan Delaney earned a gold in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:38.6. Steve Schaefer marked second (9:47.1). Daniel Lounsbury completed the 5000-meter race in 14:57.60 for a silver medal.
The Bison will return to the track on April 24-26 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. The Bison will host the Patriot League Outdoor Championships in two weeks, May 2-3.
