Bison Men's Distance Medley Relay Sets New School Record At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Bucknell track and field team participated in the 2003 Penn Relays. Bucknell's men's distance medley relay squad placed fourth, setting a new school record. A select few track and field members participated in the Penn Relays.
In the distance medley relay, Eric Furst, Ryan Newberger, Kevin Walsh and Lou Palma set a new school record with a finish time of 9:51.36. The relay team placed fourth, behind Oklahoma State, Cornell and North Carolina. Furst ran the 1200-meter split in 3:00.8, Newberger completed the 400-meter split in 47.9, Walsh ran the 800-meter in 1:54.7 and Palma closed the race with the 1600-meter (4:07.0). The relay team broke the old record (9:51.44) by eight hundredths of a second.
On Thursday, Bryan Johnston finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:17.14. Maria Garcia threw the hammer for a distance of 166'10".
On Friday, the women's sprint medley relay crossed the line at 4:09.99. Bucknell's women's shuttle hurdle relay finished with a time of 60.66. Adam Jacob vaulted 14'7.25" and Noel Powell leaped 21'11" in the long jump.
The Bison will host the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 2-3, in Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
