Bison Women's Tennis Sneaks by Lafayette, 4-3

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell and Lafayette played to a 3-3 tie after six singles bouts, but the Bison women's tennis team won two of the three doubles matches to come away with the 4-3 victory over Lafayette on Thursday, March 27. With the win, BU improves to 9-1 on the year and 1-0 in Patriot League action.
Freshman Veronica Brown got the winning started with a 6-3, 6-1 straight set victory over Lily Fardshisheh at number two. Senior Jill Wurzburg followed with a solid 7-5, 7-6 (3) win against Shannon Rowe at the third flight.
Rookie Rheanna Gaskin helped to keep the Orange and Blue in the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over fifth-flight opponent Lisa Fung-Kee-Fung.
Because the men were playing at the same time, the women's squad played for the doubles point after singles play was complete. Brown and sophomore Nadezda Curcic helped the cause with an 8-5 win at the first flight. Wurzburg and junior Samantha Berthod secured the Bucknell victory with an 8-4 defeat at number three.
The Bison are 9-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. BU is in action next on April 3, at Mount St. Mary's at 3:00 p.m.
