Bison Women's Water Polo Rolls with 8-2 Win Over Gannon

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Meg Blitzer scored Bucknell's first goal of the game, and assisted on BU's final score, as the women's water polo team cruised to an 8-2 win over Gannon on the second day of the Bucknell Invitational. The Bison never trailed in the contest.
Blitzer got the Orange and Blue on the board just 20 seconds into the game. From there, neither team could find the back of the net for close to six minutes, before senior Katie Stahler gave Bucknell a 2-0 cushion with 57 seconds left in the first quarter.
Gannon wasted little time in the second frame, making it a 2-1 game with a Stefanie Rossi goal just 28 seconds into it. The Bison would score the next three goals of the contest, however, to jump out to a 5-1 lead just into the third quarter. Blitzer capped the Bucknell run with a goal that just beat the shot clock with 5:14 to go in the third stanza.
Gannon took advantage of a 6-of-5 opportunity with 3:24 left in the frame when Crystal Aboukhaled found Rishae Wood in front of the net to make it 5-2. That was as close as the Lady Knights would get, as Bucknell closed the game with three more scores for the 8-2 victory.
Senior Lindsay Chesterfield made 10 saves for the Bison, stopping several point-blank shots.
Bucknell improves to 6-8 overall. The Orange and Blue take on Slippery Rock at 8:00 p.m. tonight. Gannon suffers its first loss of the season, falling to 10-1.
