Women's Water Polo Wins 12-7 Over Slippery Rock

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The second day of play at the Bucknell Invitational wrapped up on Saturday, March 22, with the Bucknell women's water polo team coming out victorious in a 12-7 win over Slippery Rock. Sophomores Eileen Ketterer and Katie Hartigan each scored three goals in the win.
BU got on the board early and often, building a 4-0 lead just over five minutes into the game. Ketterer started the scoring 44 seconds in, and Hartigan scored the next two, before junior Kelly Hofstetter drove the ball into the back of the net for the four-goal cushion.
Slippery Rock's Karolyn Kiefer broke up the shutout with a back handed goal with just 27 seconds left in the first quarter, but the Bison quickly got it back on Ketterer's second score of the quarter just 12 seconds later.
Bucknell increased the lead to five by outscoring the Rock, 2-1, in the second quarter. Ketterer created the five-goal lead with 21 seconds to go until halftime with a drive to the goal.
Slippery Rock stepped up its offense in the second half, coming out and scoring just 40 seconds into the third quarter. A three-goal spurt by the Orange and Blue gave the host team its largest lead of the game at 10-3. The Rock scored four of the final six goals of the game, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
The Bucknell defense forced Slippery Rock to take many of its shots from outside of four meters, and senior Lindsay Chesterfield was solid in goal with seven saves. Lynn Boutin stopped 12 of BU's shots.
Bucknell, 7-8, faces Siena in its final game of the tournament at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 23.
