RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Bucknell managed only two goals through the first three quarters, falling into an 8-2 hole that was too much to overcome, and eventually fell 9-5 to Bakersfield in the second game of the day at the Lancer Invitational on Friday, March 14, 2003. Bucknell falls to 0-2 at the tournament, hosted by Cal Baptist.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one quarter, and held a 5-1 advantage at the intermission. Bakersfield continued to build on its lead, outscoring Bucknell 3-1 in the third quarter to carry an 8-2 advantage into the final stanza. The Bison finally got the offense going, scoring three times in the quarter, while limiting the roadrunners to one, but it was not enough.
Sophomore Katie Hartigan led the Bucknell squad with two goals and an assist. Classmate Cody Keffer had two points with a score and a helper.
Senior Lindsay Chesterfield made six saves, while also collecting two steals.
Bucknell is 4-7 overall. The Orange and Blue face Northridge at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, March 15.
