SALEM, W.Va. - Junior Kelly Hofstetter broke a 10-10 tie with her second goal of the game, and the Bucknell women's water polo team held on for an 11-10 win over George Washington at the Southern Division League Games at Salem International on Sunday, March 9, 2003.
The win was BU's first of GW since the 2001 season. The last seven games between the two schools have been decided by three goals or less.
Bucknell led 2-1 after one quarter, and held a slim 6-5 advantage at halftime. The Bison jumped ahead 9-7 after three quarters, but George Washington came charging back in the fourth to tie the game at 10-10. Hofstetter then took a pass from sophomore Katie Hartigan to score what would prove to be the game-winning-goal for the Orange and Blue.
Hofstetter finished the game with three points on two goals and an assist. Sophomore Cody Keffer led the team with four goals and two helpers for six points. In addition to her game-winning setup, Hartigan also tallied twice in the contest.
