LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell baseball team has been voted to finish fifth in the Patriot League. The Bison received 17 points in the preseason Patriot League poll among the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Navy, who shared the regular season title with Lehigh in 2002, had been chosen to win its fourth-straight regular season Patriot League crown in the pre-season vote.
Bucknell returns to the field with 21 returning letterwinners. Leading the Bison will be two senior co-captain pitchers, Zach Allen and R.J. Grant. Other key seniors for the Orange and Blue include Kevin Burns, Matthew Draper, B.J. Batterson and Ben Krentzman.
After an uncharacteristic 2002 campaign, 15-35, which cast the Bison as spectators in postseason play for the first time since 1996, the coaching staff and players have dedicated themselves to regaining their competitive place within the league.
Bucknell will begin the 2003 season on Saturday, Feb. 15 with a doubleheader at Coppin State in Baltimore, Md. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m. The Bison will play a single game against Coppin State on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m.
