Twelve Bucknell Swimming and Diving Athletes Receive All-League Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Five Bison men and seven Bison women were named to the All-Patriot League Swimming and Diving Teams, on Thursday. For the first time in PL history, Bucknell swept the Patriot League Championships on Saturday. The Bison women blew the competition out of the water, winning by over 237 points, while the men's team, which had never before finished higher than third in a Patriot League Championship meet, held off defending champion Lehigh by 69 points.
On the women's side, Bucknell placed a league-best seven athletes on the squad, including four-time all-star Darby Golino (Milford, Conn./Our Lady of Academy). Golino captured victories in the 100 (57.36) and 200 backstroke (2:02.27). Lectie Altman (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham) won the 200 freestyle (1:53.11). Jamie Flick (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) earned a gold in the 100 (1:04.69) and 200 breaststroke (2.20.30). Meghan Freese (New Freedom, Pa./Susquahannock) won the 50 (23.32) and 100 freestyle (51.08), meeting the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.
In addition to including all the individual champions, the next highest point scorers are included to fill out the 18-person All-Patriot League Team. Daniela Faas (Ludwigshafen, Germany/Worcester Academy, Mass.) earned 51 points for the Bison. Faas placed second in the 500 freestyle (4:56.93), 1650 freestyle (17:05.85) and in the 400 individual medley (4:28.51). She also swam the front split of the 800 freestyle relay to assist with a first-place finish (7:35.25).
Jennifer Cancro (Pearl River, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Acad.) received 48 points while swimming the 500 free (4:59.69, 3rd), 1650 free (17:31.63, 4th) and assisting in a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (1:34.94).
Jackie Feinthel (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) finished the weekend with 40 points. Feinthel placed fifth in both the 200 butterfly (2:11.44) and in the 500 freestyle (5:03.33). She also placed seventh in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:38.34.
The Bison men placed five student-athletes on the list, including Peter Garvin (Silver Spring, Md./Lady of Good Counsel) who won two events last weekend. Garvin placed first in the 50 freestyle and in the 100 freestyle, with times of 20.52 and 45.58. Adam Freeman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) won the one-meter diving competition. Mark Kretzer (Northport, N.Y./Harborfields) received the gold in the 200 butterfly (1:52.66).
Stephen Schwanhausser (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) earned 46 points for the Bison, and Todd Bauer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) received 45 points. Schwanhausser placed third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:03.02, and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (56.66). He also received a fourth place honor in the 200 IM (1:54.38). Bauer earned a second place mark in the 1650 free with a finish time of 16:11.02. He also finished fifth in both the 200 free (1:43.79) and the 500 free (4:38.66).
Head coach Jerry Foley was honored by his peers as both the Men's and Women's Coach of the Year after leading both Bison teams to their first-ever Patriot League titles.
