Bucknell Women's Tennis Opens Spring Season with 6-1 Win at St. Bonaventure

OLEAN, N.Y. - The Bucknell women's tennis team picked up right where it left off in the fall, defeating St. Bonaventure, 6-1, on Saturday, February 22. The Bison won all three doubles matches, and claimed five of six singles bouts.
The duo of sophomore Nadezda Curcic and freshman Veronica Brown picked up an 8-6 victory at number one doubles over Natalie Rumpel and Amanda Persono. At second doubles, sophomore Tanya Sichko and senior Jill Wurzburg picked up an 8-1 decision over Michelle Kearney and Jasmine Jaysingh, before junior Samantha Berthod and freshman Chelsea Mills made it a clean sweep with an 8-3 win at third doubles over Jennifer Iannone and Kasey Mutzel.
In singles play, Curcic defeated Rumpel at the first flight 6-2, 6-4. Brown lost just one set on her way to a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Persono at second singles. Sichko battled to a 7-5, 7-5 win over Kearney at third singles, while Berthod picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win against Iannone at the fifth flight. Mills rounded out the Bucknell scoring with a straight-set victory over Mutzel at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
The Bison are 1-0 in the spring and take on Niagara at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
