Bison Women Swimming and Diving Hold Their Lead At The End Of Day Two

LEWISBURG, Pa. - After day two of the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships, the Bison women remained at the top of the standings with 558.5 points. Bucknell set six more school records, two meet records and two league records on Friday night at Kinney Natatorium.
The Orange and Blue have a 170-point lead over second-place Navy, the defending conference champions. Navy has 388 points, followed by Lehigh (366), Colgate (306), Army (262), American (206.5), Holy Cross (135) and Lafayette (95).
A trio of Bison gave superb efforts on the middle night of the three-day competition. Jamie Flick, Lectie Altman and Darby Golino each set a new school record in an individual event, and each assisted in a first-place finish in a relay.
The Bison began the evening with a meet record time of 1:44.35 in a victory in the 200 medley relay. Golino, Flick, Mary Krakowski and Meghan Freese also set a new school record as well as a league record in the relay. Flick went on to earn the gold in the 100 breaststroke with a finish time of 1:04.69.
As the night progressed, Bucknell added more points when Daniela Faas earned second-place honors in the 400 IM (4:28.51). Krakowski earned 17 points for the Bison with a 57.06 finish to set new school record in the 100 butterfly.
Altman's winning time of 1:53.11 in the 200 freestyle gave the Bison a boost mid-evening. Second runner-up, Jennifer Cancro earned a time of 1:53.22. Golino received a gold medal after clocking in at 57.36 in the 100 backstroke and set a new school record. Altman (57.84) and Freese (58.59) placed third and fourth, respectively. In the last event for the evening, Faas, Rebecca Dolan, Altman and Cancro captured a first-place finish, by 1.5 seconds, in the 800 freestyle relay. With a time of 7:35.25, that foursome broke the school, league and meet record.
"We are certainly ecstatic. Having our men and women in position to win a championship is unprecedented," mentioned head coach Jerry Foley. "We will now keep our focus and continue to swim like we have in the past two days."
Other Friday winners were Colgate's Alice Garnett in the 400 IM (4:27.74), Navy's Tori Throckmorton, with a meet record, in the 100 butterfly (55.91), and Army's Chelsea Haviland with 274.00 points in the one-meter dive.
Bucknell will return to the pool on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m. for the last day of trials, while the finals will begin at 6 p.m. in Kinney Natatorium.
