PRINCETON, N.J. - The Bucknell women's water polo team held Arizona State scoreless in the fourth quarter, but a 6-2 early deficit was too much to overcome as the squad fell 6-4 to the Sun Devils at the Princeton Invitational on Sunday, February 16.
The Bison trailed 3-0 after one quarter, and 5-1 after two, before outscoring Arizona State 3-1 in the second half. It was too little, too late, however, as the Sun Devils held on for the two-goal victory.
Bucknell had a balanced scoring attack, getting goals from junior Kelly Hofstetter, sophomores Larissa Brown and Katie Hartigan, and freshman Kaitlin Bardoe. Bardoe also added the only two assists of the game for the first three points of her career.
Sophomore Meg Blitzer was the team leader in steals with three, while freshman Laura Meitzner grabbed the first two thefts of her season.
Senior Lindsay Chesterfield was solid in goal, recording nine saves while only allowing six goals.
The Bison fall to 0-2 on the season. BU's game against 18th-ranked Brown, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, was cancelled due to the blizzard hitting the east coast.
Bucknell is in action next at the Brown Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, February 22-23. The Orange and Blue face #19 Harvard at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
