Bucknell Swimming and Diving Completes Trials/Finals Invite Sweep

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's swimming and diving team won four of the nine events contested and racked up 1,081 points, while the Bison women won two of their nine events and accumulated 1,104 points as both teams rolled to victory in the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invite on Sunday. On the men's side, runner-up LaSalle had 917 ? points, to Delaware's 652 ? and New Hampshire's 469. On the women's side, Delaware had 848 ? points, New Hampshire had 657 ?, and LaSalle had 634.
Ten events each for the men and the women were competed on Saturday, the first day of the competition. Through the first day, Bucknell had a 114 ?-point lead over Delaware on the women's side, and an 80 ?-point lead over La Salle on the men's side.
Both Bison teams won the opening relay event, the 200-yard medley relay. On the women's side, Lectie Altman, Jamie Flick, Mary Krakowski, and Meghan Freese used the fifth-best all-time finish in Bucknell history to win the race in 1:48.04. The men's team of Mark Kretzer, Andrew Steiner, Michael Willats, and Jake Thieman won in 1:37.46.
Lectie Altman won the 200-yard backstroke in her third-straight meet this year, taking the event in 2:05.92. Ian Rawhauser answered the women's win with a victory in the event as well, finishing in 1:54.83, improving his personal record and keeping the ninth-best all-time finish in Bucknell history.
The men's team's last individual event win came in the 200-yard breaststroke, when the Bison finished one-two-three. William Schilling won the event in 2:08.40, while Clifton Cazes finished second in 2:13.55 and Matt Hallowell finished third in 2:16.94.
Diver Sarah Petcavage improved on the record she already owned for the three-meter dive in 11 attempts, racking up 407.65 points but coming in second to LaSalle's Kit Watkins (451.60). Victoria Fritz entered her name onto the list in the second spot, scoring 377.40 points for third place in the event. On the men's side, Jake Thompson and Joseph Duncan had the third- and fourth-best score both in Bucknell history and in the event, as Thompson scored 404.70 points and Duncan 402.90.
The men's team closed the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Thieman, Rawhauser, Willats, and Peter Garvin won the race in 3:10.69.
The Bison closed competition for 2003 with the win, and will head to Florida from Jan. 3-11 for a training trip, and return to competition on Jan. 17 against Colgate.
