PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Bucknell freshman women's basketball player Lindsey Hollobaugh scored a career-high 25 points on 11-of-18 shooting, and the Bison team shot a sizzling 54.0% from the field, on the way to a 79-66 victory over Providence in the first round of the La Salle Christmas Tournament on Monday, December 29. With the victory, the Bison have won a season-high four straight games.
Hollobaugh was impressive in the opening half, connecting on seven of 10 shots, including three treys, for 17 points at the break.
Both teams were hot in the first with the Orange and Blue hitting .633 of their shots (19-30) and Providence connecting on .609 (14-23) of its shots. Bucknell held a 45-31 lead at halftime thanks in part to a 5-of-7 performance from behind the arc.
BU trailed the Friars 14-9 with 12:29 left in the first before mounting a 12-0 run, featuring seven points from Hollobaugh and five from sophomore Lindsey Geosits, that spanned just under three minutes and gave the Bison a lead it would never relinquish. Bucknell made six of its final eight attempts from the field in the last 4:10 of the opening half to enter the locker room with the 14-point lead.
Providence never threatened in the second half, getting only as close as 12 on two separate occasions. Trailing by 18 with 9:38 to go, the Friars did put together an 8-2 run over a 3:45 span to get within 12 with 5:53 left. After a Bucknell timeout, senior Desire Almind stopped Providence's momentum with a three-pointer to push it back to a 15-point lead.
BU led by as many as 17 in the final 4:04 before the Friars scored the final four points of the game for the 79-66 final.
In addition to Hollobaugh, Almind was also in double-figures with 17 points. Junior Brooke Tomovich came off the bench to tally 13. Hollobaugh also led all players with a personal-best eight assists.
Bucknell improves to 5-4 overall and will face La Salle in the championship game of the tournament at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30. Providence falls to 3-7 overall.
