LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell junior men's soccer player Jonathan Hemmert (Westerville, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and sophomore Adam Edwards (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) have been named to the 2003-04 Academic All-District II University Division Men's Soccer Team, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Hemmert made his second-straight appearance on the first-team, while Edwards was selected to the second-team in his first year of eligibility for the squad.
With his selection to the first team, Hemmert is now eligible for national Academic All-America recognition. The national team will be voted on later this month and announced on Monday, November 24. In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a player must be at least a sophomore and a starter or significant reserve on his/her team, and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.
A starter in 11 of 17 games this season, Hemmert has continued his play as Bucknell's setup man. After recording no assists in his first year of play, the midfielder has racked up 17 helpers in the last two years, including seven this season which places him ninth on the Bucknell single-season list. His 10 assists a year ago was the third best single-season total in school history.
Hemmert is not only breaking into the Bucknell charts, but he is leaving a dent on the Patriot League annals as well. His career total for assists puts him in a tie for ninth on the conference all-time list with one more season to go.
In addition to his assists, Hemmert has also scored two goals this season for 11 points. One of his scores was a game-winning penalty kick to lift the Bison past Monmouth, 1-0. Of his four career goals, two have come by way of game-winning penalty kicks.
In the classroom, Hemmert has been equally successful, maintaining a 3.89 grade point average. He is a member of the University's Dean's List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. In addition, he is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and was selected to the 2002-03 Academic All-District First-Team.

Edwards has played in all 19 of Bucknell's games this season, starting 18 of those. The 2002 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, Edwards picked up where he left off a year ago, posting eight shutouts this season. His two-year total stands at 18, after a school record 10 last season, good enough for eighth on the Patriot League all-time career shutouts list.
This season, Edwards has been named the NCAAsports.com Student-Athlete of the Week, in addition to recently garnering the Patriot League's BRINE Defensive Player of the Week honor for the first time in his career. Both of the selections came after the netminder recorded eight saves in Bucknell's 1-0 win over No. 2 Maryland, the biggest upset in Bison men's soccer history.
For the season, Edwards has recorded a career-best 75 saves, bettering his freshman year total of 72. He has helped lead the Orange and Blue to a Patriot League regular-season title, allowing only three goals in conference play for a 0.34 goals against average.
Edwards is a 3.45 electrical engineering major. He is active in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, as well as the Catholic Campus Ministry.
The Orange and Blue are 11-6-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the Patriot League. BU completed the first unbeaten PL season in school history, in the process claiming the regular-season title for just the third time.
The Bison will host the Patriot League Championship Tournament on Friday and Sunday, November 14 and 16. The first game of the day, #2 Lafayette vs. #3 Holy Cross, will kick off at 11:00 a.m. Top-seeded Bucknell and #4 Lehigh will play at 1:30 p.m. The championship game will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 16.
