LEWISBURG, Pa. - Members of the Bucknell swimming and diving team took part in a 5K race for charity this past weekend, with proceeds benefiting the Donald Heiter Community Center in Lewisburg. The Bison helped to raise over $700 for their efforts in a race co-sponsored by Bucknell University and the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
In total, 25 men and 30 women competed in the race, including some swim parents in town for Bucknell's annual Parents' Weekend. The 16th running of the event included a course that started at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, home of the Bison football, track and field, and lacrosse teams, and ended in front of the sponsoring fraternity house.
The fastest finishers among the Bucknell swim team included Chris Mollica, Andrew Steiner, and Jake Thieman on the men's side, and Lauren Kmec, Alexis Willis, and Andrea Kern on the women's side. All participants enjoyed a brunch following the race.
The Bison will take their athletic talents to the pool this Saturday at 11 a.m. when they host the Bucknell Sprint Invitational against West Chester, Bloomsburg, and Penn.
