LEWISBURG, Pa. - Blamah Sarnor rushed for 122 yards and seniors Albert Marquardt and Tim Johnson scored two touchdowns apiece in their final career games to lead Bucknell to a 45-16 victory over Georgetown on Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
Bucknell racked up 532 total yards, including 326 on the ground, while the defense forced three turnovers and came up with five sacks. Under first-year head coach Tim Landis the Bison finished 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the Patriot League.
Bucknell will be among the nation's most improved teams this season after finishing 2-9, 0-7 last season and garnering an eighth-place prediction in the preseason coaches' poll. At 4-3 in the Patriot League, Bucknell finishes in third place, behind only Colgate (7-0) and Lehigh (6-1). The Bison finished 4-1 at home and had its eighth non-losing season in the last nine years.
Drew Crawford complete 18 of 36 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown for Georgetown, which finishes 4-8, 1-6.
Bucknell scored touchdowns on its first three possessions to grab an early 21-3 lead. Quarterback Daris Wilson scored from three yards out to open the scoring just 3:39 into the contest. Freshman Ed Cortez keyed the drive with 46 rushing yards on three carries.
After Michael Gillman made it 7-3 with a 24-yard field goal, Bucknell used some trickery for its second score of the day. Wilson threw a lateral pass to Michael Cangelosi, who tossed a 38-yard touchdown strike to a wide open Marquardt.
Johnson's 13-yard run made it 21-3 with 13:57 left in the second quarter and Ryan Korn's 41-yard field goal with 30 seconds remaining made it 24-3 at the half. Korn's field goal was his 14th of the season, setting a new Bucknell record.
John Henry Jackson, subbing for a hobbled Wilson, tossed a 9-yard TD pass to Marquardt to make it 31-3 less than four minutes into the second half.
Alondzo Turner's 21-yard scamper brought Georgetown within 31-10 with 8:25 left in the third quarter, and the Hoyas were driving again on their next series when defensive tackle Shawn Tidwell made a key tackle on Kim Sarin in the backfield for a 1-yard loss on 4th-and-1. The Bison capitalized 11 plays later when Antwan Kennedy restored the four-touchdown cushion with a 22-yard touchdown run.
Crawford's 10-yard touchdown pass to Walter Bowser with 9:21 remaining made it 38-16, and Johnson finished the scoring with a 13-yard TD run with 4:40 left.
Wilson completed 9 of 17 passes for 159 yards and also ran for 53 yards on 13 carries. Johnson had 67 yards on eight totes, while Marquardt caught five passes for 84 yards and became the first Bison since Ron Rockett in 1998 to record two TD catches in the same game.
Luke McArdle led all players with nine receptions for 99 yards for Georgetown. John Sims was the Hoyas' leading rusher with 81 yards on 17 carries.
Bucknell fell just one yard short of setting the single-season school rushing mark. Its 2,908 yards was one shy of the 1951 team's mark of 2,909, which was set during that team's perfect 9-0 season.
