LEWISBURG, Pa. - Kyle Keating passed for 332 yards and three touchdowns to lead Lehigh to a 45-9 rout of Bucknell Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
Lehigh improved to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the Patriot League, while Bucknell fell below .500 for the first time this season at 5-6, 3-3.
Bucknell scored first on a 30-yard field goal by Ryan Korn - his school-record tying 13th field goal of the season - but the Mountain Hawks retaliated with a touchdown just 40 seconds later, the first of 45 straight Lehigh points.
Blamah Sarnor rushed for a career-high 148 yards and Bucknell's lone touchdown. Jermaine Pugh had 94 yards on 17 carries, while Adam Bergan caught six passes for 99 yards for Lehigh.
The Bison took nearly seven minutes off the clock and converted two fourth-down plays on the opening drive of the game, culminating in Korn's field goal. But just two plays later Keating connected with Gerran Walker on a 52-yard touchdown pass to give Lehigh a 7-3 lead.
Bucknell quarterback Daris Wilson, who had been intercepted only once all season, threw two in the first half, both of which led to short scoring drives. First it was Kaloma Cardwell's interception and return to the Bucknell 35 that set up a 5-yard TD pass from Keating to Aaron Argenta with 3:16 left in the first quarter.
Midway through the second quarter, Lawrence Williams returned a pickoff to the Bison 22, setting up the first of two short scoring runs for fullback Gregory Fay.
After taking a 21-3 lead to halftime, Matt Douglas kicked a 38-yard field goal on Lehigh's first drive of the second half, and Adam Kovacs 39-yard TD catch put the game out of reach at 31-3 with 8:03 left in the third period.
A 3-yard TD run by Fay and a 4-yard TD run by Bowers, the latter coming one play after Tom McGeoy's fumble return, made it 45-3. Sarnor's 4-yard scoring run completed the scoring with 19 seconds remaining.
Lehigh racked up 490 yards of total offense to Bucknell's 308. The Bison netted 273 yards on the ground. Lehigh's victory was its sixth straight over Bucknell, and it was the Bison's first home loss of the season.
Both teams close out their regular season's next week. Bucknell hosts Georgetown, while Lehigh battles cross-town rival Lafayette.
