LEWISBURG, Pa. - Less than a week after being named the NCAAsports.com Student-Athlete of the Week, Bucknell sophomore men's soccer goalie Adam Edwards (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) has picked up another honor, being named the BRINE Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending November 9, 2003.
Edwards, a three-time BRINE Rookie of the Week and the Patriot League Rookie of the Year in 2002, wins his first career Defensive Player of the Week honor after posting a pair of shutouts in a 1-0-1 week for the Bison. One of his shutouts was an eight-save performance in the biggest win in Bucknell men's soccer history, a 1-0 decision at #2 Maryland, snapping the Terps 23 game home winning streak.
In BU's only other contest of the week, Edwards denied Holy Cross on two tries in 91 minutes of a scoreless draw.
For the year, Edwards has recorded a career-best 75 saves, besting his freshman year total of 72. He has registered eight shutouts this season, and 18 in his young career, already good enough for eighth on the Patriot League all-time list.
The Orange and Blue are 11-6-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the Patriot League. BU completed the first unbeaten PL season in school history, in the process claiming the regular-season title for just the third time.
The Bison will host the Patriot League Championship Tournament on Friday and Sunday, November 14 and 16. The first game of the day, #2 Lafayette vs. #3 Holy Cross, will kick off at 11:00 a.m. Top-seeded Bucknell and #4 Lehigh will play at 1:30 p.m. The championship game will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 16.
