LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's soccer player Scott Visnic (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) has been named to the collegesoccernews.com National Team of the Week, announced by College Soccer News on Monday, November 10.
Visnic joins such players as the National Player of the Week Chris Sawyer of No. 5 Notre Dame, Brian Plotkin from 12th-ranked Indiana, and Damien Pottinger of Duquesne, the 21st-ranked team in the country.
In Bucknell's first game of the week, Visnic's 12th goal of the season just over a minute into the game proved to be the game-winner as the Bison upset No. 2 Maryland, 1-0, on Tuesday, November 4, to halt the Terps home winning streak at 23 games. The victory, BU's second over a top-10 team in the past four years, is the biggest upset in program history. The Orange and Blue defeated 8th-ranked South Carolina in the 2000 season.
Bucknell tied Holy Cross, 0-0, in the only other contest of the week.
With his career-high 12 goals and three assists, Visnic leads the squad in points with 27. That goal and point total moves him into a tie for 10th on the Patriot League single-season list in both categories. He also moves into a tie for eighth on the same lists in the Bucknell annals.
The Orange and Blue are 11-6-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the Patriot League. BU completed the first unbeaten PL season in school history, in the process claiming the regular-season title for just the third time.
The Bison will host the Patriot League Championship Tournament on Friday and Sunday, November 14 and 16. The first game of the day, #2 Lafayette vs. #3 Holy Cross, will kick off at 11:00 a.m. Top-seeded Bucknell and #4 Lehigh will play at 1:30 p.m. The championship game will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 16.
