Lewisburg, Pa. - The weekly STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll was released today, and Bucknell received two nominations from among the 26 voters to be included in the top-20 poll. At 7-1, the Bison are off to their best start since 1975, when they won eight of their first nine games. Bucknell plays this afternoon at La Salle (6-5), and the Bison would equal the best start in program history with a win.
The Bison were recognized for having two wins this week, over St. Francis (Pa.) 6-2 last Tuesday, and over Lehigh 3-1 on Saturday. This is the third time the Bison have appeared in the poll. The Bison also received votes in the Sept. 9 and Sept. 30 polls.
Three more of Bucknell's opponents were included in the poll or received votes to be included. Holy Cross, the only team to beat Bucknell this season, 2-1 in the first game at Bucknell's Graham Field on Sept. 20, earned four nominations, while American, which Bucknell has at home on Nov. 1, received 22 nominations. Penn State, which Bucknell visits on Oct. 21, is No. 8 in the nation this week.
Wake Forest University, at 11-0, received all 26 first place votes in this Tuesday's poll.
