LORETTO, Pa. - St. Francis' Shelley Sullivan scored just 5:06 into the opening half, but her goal would hold as the Red Flash defeated Bucknell, 1-0, in women's soccer action on Tuesday, October 28. The loss is BU's second-straight shutout after putting together six-game unbeaten streak earlier in the year.
Sullivan took a pass from Viviane Villar in the match's sixth minute and placed a shot from the left side past Bucknell goalkeeper Samantha Hecht. Sullivan's shot came from 18 yards out and would prove to be the match's lone goal.
Both teams recorded five shots on goal in the contest. Hecht finished the game with four saves, while St. Francis (Pa.) goalkeeper Melanie Stockman was perfect with five stops.
Bucknell falls to 7-5-3 overall. The Bison have one regular-season game remaining, a critical Patriot League contest at Navy on Saturday, November 1. The fifth-place Bison need either a win or a tie against the first-place Mids, and they also need some help from American, who takes on fourth-place Army on Sunday, for a chance to participate in the four-team conference playoffs. Game time at Navy is slated for 10:00 a.m.
