Lewisburg, Pa. - The Bucknell women's soccer team fell this afternoon to American, 3-0, in a Patriot League match at West Fields. It was also Senior Day in Lewisburg, as the Bison honored the squad's lone senior, Abbey Seaboyer, before her final regular-season home game.
But the Eagles were intent on spoling Seaboyer's Lewisburg swan song, as Christina Gonzales tipped in a cross-goal pass from Anabel Jimenez in the 17th minute before Bucknell goalie Samantha Hecht could make the save, putting the Eagles up 1-0.
American took its advantage into the halftime break while the Bison looked to gain momentum and square the match. But Jimenez, American's leading goal scorer, notched the first of her two goals off a corner kick by Simone Konig in the 65th minute to put the Eagles up 2-0. Jimenez also provided the third score on a dribbler at the far end of the goal.
Samantha Hecht had seven saves for the Bison on 14 shots by American, while Eagle goalie Lauren Wohl had two saves on five Bucknell shots. American had four corner kicks to Bucknell's one, and 12 fouls to Bucknell's 10.
The loss drops the Bison to 7-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the Patriot League. The Eagles improved to 8-6-1, 5-1-0 with the win. Bucknell will play its penultimate regular season game at St. Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon and will play its regular season finale at Navy next Saturday.
