WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore Kerry Fitz-Patrick found the back of the net for the fourth time this season, and it prevented the Bucknell women's soccer team from snapping its six game unbeaten streak, as the squad played to a 1-1 tie at Holy Cross on Saturday, October 18.
Despite eight shots from the Crusaders in the opening half, and five from the Bison, neither team could find the back of the net in the first half of play. Holy Cross rattled off 11 shots in the second half, one of those coming off the foot of Erica Backstrom, who snuck the ball past Bucknell goalkeeper Samantha Hecht at the 63:00 mark for a 1-0 Crusaders lead.
Things were looking bleak for the Orange and Blue, with time winding down and the Bison facing a 1-0 deficit. Fitz-Patrick changed that at the 81:30 mark, taking a pass from freshman Jennifer Margolis and slipping it past Holy Cross goalie Christina Arsenault to tie the contest at 1-1.
That would be all the scoring for the game, despite the 22 shot effort by the Crusaders and the 18 shots from Bucknell players.
Hecht ended the game with 10 saves. Arsenault recorded eight stops for HC.
Bucknell is 7-3-3 overall and 2-1-2 in Patriot League play. The Bison return home to host American in their final home game of the year on Saturday, October 25, at 1:00 p.m. Holy Cross is 1-12-1 overall and 0-4-1 in conference action.
