MIAMI, Fla. - Bison freshman Shannon Curd recorded her first career multiple-goal game, netting two goals in the game's final two minutes to lead the Bucknell women's soccer team past South Alabama, 3-2, in a neutral site game played at Florida International on Sunday, October 12. With the win, the Orange and Blue improve their unbeaten streak to four games.
Sophomore Kerry Fitz-Patrick got BU on the board just 1:48 into the contest, scoring in her third consecutive game. Fitz-Patrick took a pass from freshman Jennifer Margolis and slipped the ball past South Alabama goalkeeper Amber Angermeier on the near post for the 1-0 lead.
South Alabama regained the lead with two goals in less than a three minute span at the 21:56 and 24:02 marks. Heather Adamus headed in a flip throw from Jennifer Beckwith in the 22nd minute to tie the contest, before Tanya Allegretti buried a rebounded shot to give USA a 2-1 lead.
South Alabama outshot Bucknell, 10-1, in the half marking the third consecutive game BU has converted on its first shot of the contest.
The Bison turned the tables in the second half, outshooting South Alabama 8-2 in the frame. It appeared as if the offensive pressure was going to be in vain with South Alabama still holding a 2-1 lead with less than two minutes to play.
Curd changed all of that with 1:15 left in the game, scoring on a rebounded shot of her own to knot the contest 2-2. Just 18 seconds later, the rookie buried her second of the game, taking a pass from junior Meghann Chipko for the game-winner.
Bison keeper Samantha Hecht finished the contest with four saves. Angermeier played the first half for South Alabama, stopping two shots. Casey Garrett played the entire second half, making three saves.
Bucknell improves to 7-3-1 overall. The Orange and Blue will face Florida International on Tuesday, October 14. South Alabama falls to 5-7-2.
