LEWISBURG, Pa. - Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh announced Thursday that it will pick up the Lafayette Sports Network broadcast of the Bucknell-Lafayette football game on Nov. 9 at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
To help accommodate the Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh broadcast schedule, kickoff of Bucknell's Homecoming Day contest will be moved up 30 minutes to 12:30 p.m.
Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh reaches over 2.2 million cable television subscribers, including those in Lewisburg and surrounding areas. In addition to Western and Central Pennsylvania, the network branches in to parts of West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland. It is also available via digital satellite systems, such as DirecTV.
FSNP is the official home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins, televising over 120 Pirates games and 70 Penguins contests. The network will also air close to 50 college football games this fall.
"Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh is very excited to carry the Bucknell-Lafayette game," said John Stroh, the network's programming coordinator. "This is the kind of programming that regional sports networks should be doing. We look forward to expanding our relationship with Bucknell and the Patriot League in the future."
Gary Laubach, John Leone and Dan Mowdy will call the action on the broadcast, which will also air on RCN-TV 4 and WBPH-TV 60 in Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey.
This year's Bucknell-Lafayette contest will be the 80th in a storied rivalry that dates back to 1883. In fact, the Leopards were the opponent for Bucknell's first-ever varsity football contest. The two teams have met each year since 1945, making it the 11th-longest continuous rivalry in Division I-AA football. Lafayette leads the all-time series 41-32-6.
The Lafayette game will be the second televised contest for the Bison this season. CCN-Cable Channel 8, based out of Danville, will air the Sept. 21 Bucknell-Cornell game on a tape-delayed basis.
Bucknell opens its 2002 campaign this Saturday at Duquesne at 1 p.m.
