VESTAL, N.Y. - Seniors Elliott Maruffi-Cowley (Mays Landing, N.J./North Branford (Conn.)) and Nick Taylor (Fairview Park, Ohio/St. Ignatius) scored Bucknell's goals as the Bison men's soccer team shutout Binghamton 2-0 on Wednesday, September 4.
Despite getting out shot for the second game in a row (10-7), the Orange and Blue capitalized on two Binghamton mistakes early in the game. Just 6:44 into the contest, Maruffi-Cowley found the back of the net with a shot from the left side, past the Bearcat's goalkeeper Ian Wendel. Junior Chris Beekman (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) and senior Steve Feather (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville) were credited with the assists on the play.
Just 1:11 later, Taylor received a pass from sophomore Ori Adrabi (West Hills, Calif./El Camino Real) and blasted a shot into the goal from 22-yards out for his first score of the season. The early goals would be all the Bison would need as they held on for the 2-0 victory.
Freshman Adam Edwards (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) picked up his first collegiate shutout, registering three stops in 90 minutes of action.
Bucknell improves to 2-0 for the first time since the 1995 season. The Orange and Blue continue a five-game season-opening road trip at the Bulls Fall Classic, hosted by Buffalo, on Saturday and Sunday, September 7-8. BU faces the host team on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
