LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's soccer players Michael Lookingland II (Fallston, Md./Loyola) and Adam Edwards (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) have earned Patriot League player of the week honors for the week ending September 22, 2002. Lookingland nabbed his first BRINE Defensive Player of the Week award this season, while Edwards was tabbed the BRINE Rookie of the Week for the second time this year.
Lookingland, a sophomore, garners the defensive award after directing the Bucknell defense to a pair of 1-0 victories over 18th-ranked Pittsburgh and Patriot League rival Colgate. The Bison defense allowed just seven total shots on goal in the two games, including only one in the League win over the Raiders.
Edwards, the team's starting goalkeeper, is the top rookie again after earning the two shutouts for the Orange and Blue. The netminder was tested several times on the way to a six-save performance in the 1-0 triumph over nationally ranked Pittsburgh. He responded with a 1-0 win over league rival Colgate, stopping the only shot he faced on his way to the victory.
The Bucknell defense has allowed only three goals through seven games, posting five shutouts in the process.
The Bison, 1-1 in the Patriot League, are off to a 6-1 start overall, the best in the program's history since 1990. BU is in action next on Tuesday, September 24, when they host Niagara for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
