In its home opener Bucknell picked up its first victory of the season, 14-3 over Cornell ... the win snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to last season ... it was Bucknell's 13th straight home victory over a non-league opponent ... the victory came in Bucknell's first night game at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium since 1986 ... despite afternoon rain, 6,922 fans were in attendance ... senior QB Todd Wenrich, junior WR Albert Marquardt and freshman RB Blamah Sarnor were the offensive stars for the Bison ... in his best showing of the season, Wenrich completed 15 of 21 passes for 208 yards and touchdown, with no interceptions ... the .714 completion percentage was the best of Wenrich's career ... Marquardt caught six passes for a career-high 135 yards, including a 70-yard TD reception ... the play was the longest completion for both Wenrich and Marquardt ... Sarnor made his first collegiate start in the backfield and totaled 100 rushing yards on 21 carries ... his 21-yard TD on Bucknell's second possession of the night gave the Bison a 7-0 lead ... Sarnor is the first Bucknell freshman to rush for 100 yards in a game since Rich Lemon in 1993 ... Lemon is the school's all-time leading rusher ... Bucknell used a "bend-but-don't-break" defense to keep Cornell out of the end zone ... the Big Red advanced inside the Bison 30-yard line five times, but came away with only a 35-yard field goal ... junior CB Anthony Lewis blocked a 25-yard field goal attempt, and three times the Bison held on fourth down deep in its own territory ... one of those occasions came after Cornell recovered a Wenrich fumble at the Bucknell 6-yard line ... Lewis also snagged his second interception of the year ... junior ILB Stephane Pluviose led all players with 12 tackles ... sophomore ILB Kevin Ransome and senior DT Gary Carruthers had 10 hits each ... senior OLB Joe Massey picked up his 20th career sack, leaving him 5.5 shy of the school record ... Massey moved into a tie for 12th place on the Patriot League career sack list ... senior WR Jim Horan jumped two spots into sixth place on Bucknell's career receiving yards list with 1,639 ... he passed Mike Guerrini (1987-88) and Whitey Berardinelli (1989-92) ... Wenrich passed Travis Kopp (1991-94) into ninth place on the BU career list for pass completions with 252, and he moved into eighth on the career list for passing yards with 2,880 ... Bucknell has now won three of its last four meetings with Cornell but trails 33-9 in the all-time series ... the Bison have won 11 of their last 19 against Ivy League foes ... the win was the first under acting head coach Dave Kotulski ... game two of a three-game homestand is next Saturday, Sept. 28 against Delaware State (1 p.m.).
