Bucknell Field Hockey Falls in Defensive Struggle at Holy Cross, 2-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - Bucknell dropped its first Patriot League contest of the season on Saturday, 2-0 at Holy Cross. The two-time defending Patriot League regular season champion Crusaders scored early and late in the second half to break up a scoreless contest.
Heather Yanusis scored off a Jillian LeClair feed just 1:19 into the second half for the game's initial goal. Liz Tutella added an insurance tally with only 40 seconds remaining.
The defensive struggle featured a total of only 14 shots, eight by the Crusaders. Bison goalie Sonja Wettergreen recorded five saves, while Holy Cross' Jennifer Corsilli logged four. Each team took seven penalty corners.
Bucknell, which has a league win over Colgate, fell to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in Patriot League play. Holy Cross, the preseason favorite to capture the league title, is 2-4, 1-0.
Up next for the Bison is a non-league home game against LaSalle on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m.
