Bucknell Men's Water Polo Concludes Play at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Bucknell men's water polo team concluded play at the Princeton Invitational on Sunday, September 15, with a 1-1 showing for the day. The Bison dropped a 14-9 decision to 12th-ranked St. Francis (N.Y.), before defeating Merchant Marine 12-9 in the final game of the weekend.
Against St. Francis (N.Y.), junior Jamie Saettele continued his offensive onslaught, scoring four times for the Orange and Blue. In addition, freshman Bradley Roslyn added two scores and an assist, to go along with a team-best three steals. Also notching goals for BU were senior Adam Yerkes, and sophomores Elliot Benoist and James Danforth.
Freshman Trevor Mullins played the entire game in net, recording 11 saves and one steal, as well as handing out an assist.
In the Merchant Marine contest, the teams were evenly matched through three quarters with Bucknell clinging to a 9-8 lead entering the final stanza. The Bison defense kicked in against the sixth-ranked Division III school in the country, limiting the Mariners to one goal in the fourth quarter.
Benoist and Saettele led the way offensively for the Orange and Blue, each contributing five points in the win. Benoist had a game-high four goals and one assist, while Saettele scored three times and handed out two helpers.
Sophomore Ernest Martin was in goal for Bucknell, registering 10 saves, two steals and one assist.
Bucknell stands at 2-6 overall and is in competition next at the first set of Southern Division League Games, held at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday-Sunday, September 21-22. The Bison are slated to play George Washington in their first game of the day at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
