Bucknell Women's Soccer Sweeps Howard in 7-3 Victory

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's women's soccer team captured a victory, 7-3, while playing host to Howard in the first game of the season. Sophomore forward Megan Farrell tallied two goals for the Bison during the first half of play.
Farrell, who scored the first goal 5:34 into the first half, set the pace for the Bison during the first match-up of the season. Bucknell controlled the ball for most of the first half as senior Lauren Schwarz assisted sophomore Michelle Santonacita to produce the second point clocked at 21:44. With 20:36 left in the first half Farrell landed a clean center shot from just inside the box to give the Bison a 3-0 lead.
Howard then came back mid-way through the first half to have Raneika Bean score.
The Orange and Blue then tallied two more goals before heading into halftime. Freshman Margaret Emmitt scored with the help of sophomore Ashley Dincher, while Tara Utchel scored positioned directly in front of Howard's goal.
Howard was able to place Bean in front of the goal with 2:29 left in the half to capture another goal. At the half the score was 5-2, in favor of Bucknell.
Sophomore Kelly Kannen replaced Laurie Purse in goal during the second half for Bucknell. Less than eight minutes into the second half, Bucknell came through with force to give Schwarz the ability to take the ball to the goal. To finish out the scoring for the Orange and Blue, senior Emily Keber scored with the assist from freshman Rachel Prowler. Howard scored one more goal with in the 61st minute of the game to give a final score of 7-3.
Purse finished the first half with only facing three shots, while Kannen finished with seeing four shots and saving two from entering the goal.
Bucknell returns to action on Tuesday when it plays host to Saint Francis (Pa.) at 4 p.m. on West Field.
