LEWISBURG, Pa. - Kendall Ogle, a former captain of the Maryland football team and a 1999 draft pick of the National Football League's Cleveland Browns, has joined the Bucknell football staff as a defensive assistant coach and will work with the Bison linebackers this fall.
Ogle played running back and outside linebacker at Maryland from 1994-98 and finished seventh on the school's career tackles list with 356. During his senior year he served as team captain and earned honorable mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference plaudits. Ogle was the ACC's second-leading tackler during both his junior (138) and senior (143) campaigns and was the recipient of the team's Iron Man Award, the Terrapin Club Award and the Champion Club Award. He also earned Scholar-Athlete honors.
In 1999 Ogle was a sixth-round draft choice (187th overall) of the Browns, and he spent two seasons with that organization. In the spring of 2000, the Browns allocated him to the Rhein Fire of the NFL Europe, where he played for coach Galen Hall. Ogle ranked second in the league in tackles that season and helped lead the Fire to the World Bowl championship.
Ogle, who received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Maryland in May 2001, made his coaching debut in the fall of 2001 as head coach of the freshman team at Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Md.
The Bucknell football team is coming off a 6-4 season and opens the 2002 campaign at Duquesne on Sept. 7.
