LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's head women's soccer coach Chrissy Findlay has announced the hiring of assistant coaches Meghan Lynch and Ann Brophy for the upcoming 2002 season.
Lynch, who served as a graduate assistant with the Bison for the last two seasons, becomes the first-ever top assistant coach since the program's inception in 1990. As well, the addition of Brophy in the graduate assistant position gives Bucknell a three-person staff for the first time.
"This is a significant step in the evolution of the Bison women's soccer program," said John Hardt, director of athletics and recreation. "It is our intention that the allocation of additional coaching resources to the women's soccer program will build on past successes as well as enhance our student-athletes experiences."
Lynch earned her master's degree in education at Bucknell this past spring, just months after helping coach the Bison to a Patriot League championship and their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In addition to her coaching duties at Bucknell over the last two seasons, Lynch has been involved with the Susquehanna Valley Soccer Club, as well as numerous other camps and clinics in Central Pennsylvania.
As a standout goalkeeper and four-year letterwinner at Boston University, Lynch brings a wealth of college soccer experience to the Bison sideline. While at Boston U., she was a team captain as a senior and earned the Terrier Award as the team's most valuable player. During both her junior and senior campaigns, Lynch was named to the America East All-Academic Team, and she earned honorable mention all-conference accolades as well. Lynch graduated from Boston U's School of Education in 2001 with a degree in human movement. During her four years with the Terriers she was also involved with the U-16 Spirit of Massachusetts team, serving as an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach.
Brophy received a bachelor of arts degree in biology from Williams College in 2000. Her college coaching career began shortly after graduation, when she took over as head coach of the Williams junior varsity women's soccer program. In 2001 she served as an assistant with the varsity squad, helping Williams to a 15-2 record and an NCAA Division III Tournament berth. Brophy, who was also head coach of the women's JV lacrosse team at Williams, spent the winter and spring of 2002 as head coach of the U-16 AJAX club team.
A North Reading, Mass., native, Brophy served as a co-captain of the women's soccer team as a senior. She made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including a trip to the national semifinals. Brophy was a Final Four All-Star and NSCAA All-Region performer. She received her team's Alumnae Award in 1999 for exhibiting the most enthusiasm, leadership, dedication and sportsmanship, and she earned the 25 Years of Women in Athletics at Williams Award, which was presented at graduation to one female student-athlete for commitment and contribution to athletics.
"I am excited about the level of commitment and support that the University has shown to our program and our female student-athletes" said Findlay, who is entering her sixth year at Bucknell. "Both Meghan and Ann bring our program soccer knowledge and will be great role models and mentors to our student-athletes."
The Bison begin their championship defense on Aug. 31 with a 1 p.m. home contest against Howard.
