LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior defensive tackle Adam Lord (Troy, N.Y./Troy H.S.) has been named the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, the league announced Wednesday at its annual Media Day at Green Pond Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.
Also on Wednesday it was announced that Bucknell has been picked to place fourth in the preseason poll of league coaches and sports information directors. Defending champion Lehigh garnered 9 of 16 first-place votes and 93 total points and were selected as preseason favorites. Colgate (86), Fordham (70), Bucknell (58), Towson (53), Holy Cross (36), Lafayette (35) and Georgetown (20) rounded out the poll.
Lord is coming off a banner 2001 campaign in which he garnered First Team All-America, First Team All-ECAC and First Team All-Patriot League plaudits. Already this season he has been named a preseason All-American by Lindy's magazine.
Fordham's Javarus Dudley was picked as the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
Last season he tallied 42 tackles, including 10 for loss and five sacks. He is highly regarded for his explosiveness off the snap and his ability to tie up multiple blockers. Lord last season was a key cog in a Bucknell defense that ranked fifth nationally in yards allowed (260.1), eighth in rushing yards allowed (89.3) and 11th in points allowed (15.7).
An electrical engineering major, Lord will begin his fourth straight campaign as a starting defensive lineman on Sept. 7 at Duquesne. In 2001, Bucknell finished 6-4 overall, 4-3 in the Patriot League.
