LEWISBURG, Pa. - A trio of Bucknell baseball players have been named to the All-Patriot League First or Second Team, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.
The all-league teams are selected by league coaches, and consist of one player at each position, two starting pitchers, one relief pitcher and a designated hitter for a total of 12 student-athletes.
Seniors Eric Fishman and Larry Scheetz garnered first-team status, while classmate Gregg Farmery captured a spot on the second team.
A first-time all-league selection, Fishman enjoyed the most productive season of his collegiate career in 2002. Thrust into the team's No. 3 spot in the batting order, the right fielder provided the Bison with a consistent threat at the plate, as he led the team in practically every offensive category. Fishman topped the Bison and set career-highs in batting average (.349), hits (60), runs (34), home runs (six) and stolen bases (17). He is currently ranked seventh in the league in batting and is listed among the league-leaders in nine other categories. Fishman leads the league in total bases (104), doubles (14) and slugging percentage (.605).
Scheetz earned all-league status for the second year in a row after putting together his finest overall season in 2002. A 2001 Second Team All-Patriot League selection, Scheetz started all 50 games for Bucknell at shortstop in 2002 and anchored the Bison infield. He made just eight errors in 207 chances for a superb .961 fielding percentage. At the plate, Scheetz was the Bison's second-leading hitter with a career-high .275 batting average. He also established single-season career-highs in hits (46), doubles (six), triples (two), home runs (two) and RBI's (20).
A First Team All-Patriot League selection in 2000 and 2001, Farmery earned a spot on the second team this season. The right-handed relief pitcher notched a league-leading six saves for the Bison in 2002, as he became Bucknell's all-time leader in both saves (14) and appearances (72). He finished the season 4-4 with a team-low 2.48 ERA in 19 appearances and 29 innings pitched. Farmery also tied the Patriot League career record for saves.
The Bison finished the 2002 season 15-35 and 6-14 in the Patriot League.
