LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior outfielder Lauren Titus (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland), senior outfielder Jenna Demetriades (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua) and senior first baseman Kelly Dugan (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) have been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America District 2 Softball Team. Titus garnered her second career selection to the team, earning a spot on the first-team for the first time. Demetriades and Dugan landed on the second-team, marking Dugan's second-straight appearance on the squad. The team was announced on Thursday, May 9.
With her selection to the All-District first-team, Titus is now a finalist for national Verizon Academic All-America honors, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced on June 6.
To be eligible for the team, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, a starter or key reserve, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
Titus is back on the team after being named to the 2000 squad. The leftfielder batted a career-high .303 this season with a team-best five doubles. In addition, she is a recipient of The President's Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement, and a member of both the Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honors Society and the Phi Beta Kappa National Honors Fraternity.
Demetriades finds herself on the all-district squad for the first time in her career. Demetriades made her fourth-straight appearance on the All-Patriot League Team, earning second-team honors this season. The starting centerfielder in all of Bucknell's 44 contests this season, she finished the year as the team-leader in triples with five. Her triple total this season brought her career number to 20, giving her the Bucknell record for three-bagger's in a career. She finished second on the squad with a .286 batting average, 36 hits and 20 runs batted in.
A two-year captain, Demetriades has started every one of the 173 games she has played in over the course of her four years at BU. She ends her career with a .324 batting average, having played in and started more games than any other player ever to wear a Bucknell uniform. In the classroom, Demetriades maintains a 3.44 GPA as a Business Administration/Marketing major. She is a member of the University's Dean's List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Dugan makes her second appearance on the all-academic team in her final season with the squad. A 3.56 Psychology major with a minor in Religion, Dugan has had an equally impressive career on the diamond for Bucknell. This season, she finished fifth on the team with a batting average of .231. Defensively, Dugan was again solid at first base, committing only seven errors in a team-high 303 chances for a .977 fielding percentage.
Off the field, the co-captain is a member of the Dean's List, a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and has been inducted into the Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society.
