Ryan Weber Receives Senior Athletic Award at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior Ryan Weber (Longmont, Colo./Niwot), a member of the Bucknell men's soccer team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the University on April 30.
Weber won the Alvin F. Jackson, Jr. Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award, presented to one male and one female senior athlete for outstanding academic and athletic achievement, and future promise as Bucknell alumni. Weber shared the award with women's swimming and diving standout, Abby Weaver.
In addition to Weber and Weaver, several other student-athletes were honored at the banquet, including the winners of the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in the senior class. Track & field standout Stephanie Bango won the women's Mathewson Award, while men's basketball star Bryan Bailey received the men's Mathewson Award.
A spot starter throughout his career, Weber saved his best season for last. As a senior, the defender scored the first two goals of his career and equaled his career-high with three assists, while starting in 14 of Bucknell's 18 games. Both of his scores came in victories, including the final game of his career against Army.
In the classroom, Weber is especially successful, maintaining a 3.93 grade point average as a Business Administration/Accounting major. A four-year member of the University's Dean's List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, he received a 4.0 GPA at the conclusion of the 2001 fall semester. Weber is a three-year recipient of the President's Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement and a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
Bucknell is a highly selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,550 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 8 of 11 years.
Bucknell has finished in the top 10 nationally in the graduation rates of its student athletes in each of the 11 years the NCAA has conducted such a survey. Twice in that span Bucknell ranked FIRST in the nation in graduation rates. In addition, Bucknell ranks third in Division I in the total number of Verizon Academic All-America selections, with 101 national Academic All-Americans since 1970.
