PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore Noel Powell placed 10th in the 200-meter dash and 13th in the long jump, while classmate Maria Garcia turned in an 11th-place showing in the hammer throw, as the Bucknell track & field teams concluded their 2001-02 season Saturday at Princeton University's William Weaver Stadium.
Neither team had any individuals or relay squads qualify for Sunday's finals.
Powell recorded a time of 21.63 in the 200, and missed making the final by just .03 seconds. He also placed 13th in the long jump with a leap of 23' ?".
The Bison men's team also fielded a 400- and 3,200-meter relay team. In the 4x100, the quartet of Matt Solomon, Alan Gretzinger, Ryan Newberger and Powell finished 24th with a time of 42.71. The 4x800 team, consisting of Eric Furst, Aaron Hanlon, Lou Palma and Kevin Walsh came in 18th with a time of 7:43.21.
Garcia paced the women's team with her performance in the hammer throw, as she threw the ball and chain 156'3". Also competing as individuals were Edwina Bourn and Kiley MacDonald, who both participated in the 100-meter hurdle trials. Bourn finished 24th in the event with a time of 15.10, while MacDonald was 25th at 15.13.
In relay competition, the women's 4x800 team of Monique Boley, Nicki Piper, Jennifer Marsh and Amy Calvo placed 17th in a time of 9:21.62.
