LEWISBURG, Pa. - After an 8-for-18 week, Bucknell senior shortstop Larry Scheetz has been named as the Patriot League Player of the Week for the week ending April 8.
Scheetz hit safely in all six of the Bison's games for the week, and went 6-for-11 (.545) with three doubles in the team's series victory over Patriot League rival Navy. Scheetz helped Bucknell win three out of four games against the Midshipmen, and his best performance came in the team's 4-1 victory to close out the series on April 7. He went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, a walk, and two runs scored. In the Bison's 4-3, eighth-inning win over Navy on April 6, Scheetz drove in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
For the week, Scheetz hit .444 with four doubles, five runs scored and four RBI.
Scheetz is currently on a nine-game hitting streak, and has posted a single-season career high of five doubles. The starting shortstop in all 33 games this season, he is also the team's third-leading hitter at .287.
Bucknell is 13-20 and is tied for second in the Patriot League at 4-4. After traveling to Duquesne for a non-league contest on Tuesday, the Bison return home for a pair of Patriot League doubleheaders against Lehigh on April 13-14.
