LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team improved its season record to 13-5 with a 7-0 shutout over visiting Mount St. Mary's on Thursday, April 18. The Bison did not lose a match in the contest, winning five of the six singles bouts in straight sets.
The Orange and Blue found themselves in a bonus situation in doubles play, earning a win at No. 3 by default. The teams of senior Alex Davydov and Nick Denefrio, and freshmen Joe Menezes and Leland Tien made certain of the doubles point with 8-3 wins at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively.
In singles action, freshman Gerald DiChiara made a statement with his 15th singles win of the season, failing to give up a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 over Chris Frein. Menezes and junior Todd Jacobs both won their matches by identical scores of 6-2, 6-3. Menezes won over Chris Berg at the second flight, while Jacobs improved to 14-7 in singles action with his victory over Tomas Kucera at No. 5.
Tien picked up his first win at the second flight with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Andrew Arbeiter and senior Scott Allen won by default at No. 6. Senior Alex Davydov was BU's final winner on the day, coming from behind to win his first set on a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3), and then triumphing over Phil Holliday in a 6-1 second set.
Bucknell improves to 13-5 overall and travels to Army for a crucial Patriot League match against the Black Knights on Saturday, April 20. Match time is set for 12:00 p.m.
